Battery storage technology already exists – we are making it big.

We rely on lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells: made exclusively of natural raw materials, with no environmentally harmful acids or conflict minerals – and deliberately cobalt-free. The VDE classifies LFP as non-toxic and harmless in a study funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs.

“The transformation to a CO2-neutral circular economy is the greatest challenge and opportunity of our time. Our group of companies wants to make supply chains more sustainable and establish a genuine circular economy. This also applies to GESI Giga Batteries.”

Martin Schoeller – GESI Giga Batteries Initiator and Co-Founder of the Initiative Mehrweg Foundation

Better than hydrogen and gas plants for balancing short-term fluctuations

When charging, batteries act as large consumers and relieve the grid without losing electricity. They can also deliver the required output within seconds – large gas turbines, by contrast, take minutes to start up and shut down. Hydrogen is far less efficient to produce and plays to its strengths in long-term storage. For balancing short-term fluctuations in sun and wind, large-scale battery storage is by far the best instrument.
