The GESI large-scale batteries are charged when renewable energy is abundant and feed electricity into the grid when little sun and wind are available – highly flexible peak-load plants that neutralize fluctuations in generation.

The GESI large-scale batteries are charged when renewable energy is available in abundance. Throttling or switching off wind and solar systems is no longer necessary.
Discharge
In phases with little solar and wind power, GESI's large-scale battery storage systems feed electricity into the grid – reducing the need to import electricity or rely on fossil gas plants.

Emmerthal/Grohnde (Lower Saxony)
Green electricity instead of nuclear: the Grohnde nuclear power plant near Hamelin was permanently shut down at the end of 2021. A GESI battery park is now being built nearby, putting the existing energy infrastructure to good use.
Output: 870 megawatts

Bergrheinfeld (Bavaria)
The SuedLink power line will transport wind energy from northern to southern Germany, running as far as Bergrheinfeld – making it an ideal location for a GESI battery storage facility.
Output: 1,000 megawatts (1 gigawatt)

Alfstedt (Lower Saxony)
Storage facilities are especially needed near the North Sea coast so wind farms don't have to be throttled or shut down. Our battery park in the district of Rotenburg (Wümme) north of Bremen will make a major contribution.
